PULE

So much to be grateful for, so much to keep praying for. My offering at the kahakai began as an honoring of my dear sister friend, Kauanoe Chang who painted a beautiful painting of Poli’ahu over Mauna Kea. That painting gifted to us is located at the Ackerman Gallery in kapa’au as part of the kukulu exhibit What an honor that is for kohala. My prayers extend today to my Aunty TAmmy who lives in Mississippi who will shelter in place at the elderly facility where she works during Hurricane Ida. My prayers are for kumu Mikilani whose truck was stolen, filled with everything she possesses as she makes the journey every day to throughout the continent to pay homage to Mauna Kea and all sacred places and peoples who are connected to each place. Then of course we pule for our communities and all the world to be safe, protected and safeguarded. Our lives have become home to store, doctor appts and when we can, going to the Mountain,. The streams and the sea side to ground and find a sense of peace and connection to our culture and ancestors who continue to provide guidance and strength and of course we are being very careful, mindful and respectful following all the protocols in these extreme times to keep ourselves and others safe. With all that said, finding something to celebrate each day is essential to our well being, so today I’m also getting ready to watch our Hawai’i boys play in the little league championship game. May they bring us home a victory! Pc: @kapuleifloress
