Mauna a Wākea, graceful protector of the land and people. Your lofty slopes and vast body guides the winds and calls the rain. When storms head to our shores your voice is the first one to go out to signal all of our mountains to begin to chant. That very chant echoes through the valleys and summons the thunder. The lightning illuminates your ever watchful eyes and the storm meets with your gaze. Your calm and powerful presence settles the storms heart and she lays down her fierceness at your feet. You embrace her wild soul and remind her of her sacredness. The waters come down washing the land clean and the winds clear the skies and we begin again. Mauna a Wākea, great teacher, you show us how to stand like a mountain in the face of chaos and change. You teach us what it means to be steady. You teach us compassion and patience and most of all you teach us love. I am a commitment to protecting and loving you for all the days I am on this very earth.
