Lā 3 o ka ‘Aha Kūpa‘akalā - Ka Ho’oilo 2021

Tonight’s writing prompt is to write something beautiful about ourselves. I invite you to celebrate you and all you are becoming by offering yourself some time to reflect and pour into the beauty of who you are.

I love how much healing has softened me

The summit of my mind is cleansed by pa’akai and prayer more and more these days calling for thunder and rain to come and for the snow to fall so that all of wells that live in me may be full and bountiful

Like how rock is carved by water and how land is shaped by wind
Layers upon layers of who I’ve been have fallen into the sea off the cliff of my back making way for waterfalls to flow freely from my shoulders

The volcano that once burned through the forest of my lungs has spent enough time with the ancestors that live in my blood to know when to erupt and when to cool so that kupukupu can unfurl like the lessons of life do

My voice resonates in my womb in a deeper way now as if the vibration of my own chants have found their way into the caves where my creation stories echo

My bare feet and the earth know one another by name and because of that it doesn’t take me as long as it used to to remember who I am

The beauty I see in the land that I love and stand to protect is the beauty I have begun to see within myself

‘Ano‘ai me ke aloha ē
