Aloha if you do go and visit this amazing exhibit please check out He kukulu, He keiki created by the keiki of Laupahoehoe. Repost from @donkeymillartcenter

Join artists Bernice Akamine and Roen Hufford in the Gallery as we celebrate the by-appointment opening of Nā Kapa Kuʻina this Saturday, August 28 from 1:00-4:00pm. Come and safely experience this beautiful exhibition, learn more about the art of kapa and talk story with the artists and Mill Curator, Mina Elison. Follow the link in our bio to schedule your visit. We look forward to seeing you!

Featuring contemporary works of kapa artists from across Hawaiʻi, Nā Kapa Kuʻina celebrates the strong foundation of knowledge from which their work emerges. With the rich ʻike and layered moʻokūʻauhau shared with them by their kumu, these artists embrace the kuleana presented to them as kapa practitioners, fiber artists and Kanaka ʻŌiwi. It is this kuleana which inspires them to continue learning and sharing through exploration and experimentation—reconnecting them with the hana of their ancestors and further strengthening the foundation for the future.

This exhibition and programs are made possible by Spectrum, First Hawaiian Bank, and the Hawaiʻi Community Foundation’s CHANGE Grant. The Hawai'i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts has approved an Acquisition Award Selection Committee visit to the exhibit. Donkey Mill Art Center is open Wednesday through Saturday, 10:00am to 6:00pm.
