The genealogy of Mauna a Wākea from the Mele Hānau ‘o Kauikeaouli tells us that the mountain is our ancestor.

From the union of Wākea and Papawalinu‘u, born is Mauna Kea.

From the union of Wākea and Papahānaumoku, born is Ho‘ohōkūkalani.

From the union of Wākea and Ho‘ohōkūkalani, born is Hāloanakalaukapalili, the first kalo.

From the union of Wākea and Ho‘ohōkūkalani, born is Hāloa, the first Kanaka.

From Hāloa, the lāhui Hawai‘i.

We are born from this sacred land, no ane’i ko kākou ola. The love that created all that we see and all that we are is all around us and inside of us. May that very aloha lead and guide us, heal and protect us, teach and connect us. E aloha ē, e aloha ē, e aloha ē.

And this is why when we stand together, we stand strong like a mountain.
