e iho ana o luna e pi’i ana o lalo
Prayers up and salt of the sea to the earth. Offerings going to the land, ocean, and ancestors today, asking for their guidance and protection as we navigate these uncertain and intense times.
What I do know for certain is that I believe in Hawai‘i, our Lāhui, and community. I believe in the mana of our ‘āina, akua, ‘aumākua, and kūpuna. I believe they knew we would one day see a time like this and that is why they passed down their strength, courage, and wisdom from generation to generation to us. This is the time to call on the kini, lehu, and mano - the 40, 400, 4,000, 40,000 and 400,000 ancestors we each have. This is the time to call upon the Mauna who has protected us from storms for thousands upon thousands of years. Today, we call in the prayers, chants, and protocols we lifted together on the ala to be reminded that unity is possible.
An invitation to lean into the pause and breathe.
Deep inhale.
Slow exhale.
Right hand over your heart.
Left hand over your na‘au.
Breathe into your palms.
Remember you are “more resilient than you think.”
“You are here today that took strength. And you have wells of strength within you haven’t even tapped into yet.”
May we - black, brown, indigenous people be gentle and tender with ourselves and one other tonight. May we remember that the ancestors got us and we got each other. May we keep on believing in reaching the summit together.
May we remember that when we said, “e iho ana o luna e pi’i ana o lalo,” everything would be revealed. And so it is.
Kū Kia‘i Mauna,
