Kanaloa Ola

Before we left Hōlanikū, so many hō’ailona surrounded and embraced us. I just love this moment. Afsheen and Kapulei were already at the pier at the west beach, Wehenaalaula, and saw fins rising out of the water and realized that two hīhīmanu came to visit. I was walking from the main house when I saw the fins from a distance and I thought they were sharks. I ran over and tears just filled my eyes. We were so excited to see them. They were the first hīhīmanu that we saw all season and then to top it all off a fledgling ‘Ā flew above them and with them. We offered this chant as they circled the pier. What an honor it was to greet them in this way.

I find myself deeply missing these moments as I continue to transition home from such an incredible journey. Carrying Hōlanikū with me in my heart and soul in everything I do and every where I go. Profoundly grateful for every single moment I was blessed to live on our eldest land.

Kanaloa ola!
