Seven days of prayer

Seven days of prayer
Of intention
Of discipline
Of reflection
Of clearing
Of cleansing
Of restoration
Of love
In honor of the solstice
In honor of Lonoikamakahiki
In honor of ceremony in continuum

I can still remember Uncle Kalani and my mom sitting my sister and I down to share that we would be doing a seven day ‘aha - pule in the morning, noon, and in the evening, partaking of a sacred ceremonial food nightly, and writing a reflection to a different prompt every day. I was young and wasn’t always super down for it in the beginning but once we would start to pule and to chant, my whole attitude to shift and at the end of the ‘aha and sharing, I would feel centered and grateful.

I have seen my mom invite community members to participate in this process with their families throughout the years and now I am so grateful to invite our Hale Haumea to join.

Our first prompt is to reflect on and list 5 things that got us through challenges in this past year and then to write about one. This is an invitation to join in on the writing prompts if you feel called to.

Here’s my list in no particular order, just all love and all thanks.

1. Hale Haumea - chanting and praying weekly with my sisters in the safe space we have created continues to be so deeply healing and inspiring.

2. Writing and singing - this process is how I love myself. Vowing to embrace more of this practice into my life as a ritual of self love and self care.

3. My titas and daughtahs of the Haus - the FaceTime calls, the laughter, the joy, the love really be what I prayed for in pilina hoa aloha. I’m so grateful.

4. Rū Pauls Drag Race - some parts of this year was rough, k - this show brought me so much joy and continuously reminded me that, “If you don’t love yourself how in the hell you gonna love some body else?”

5. My ‘Ohana - From my family, to my chosen family, to my love and ko mākou keiki that constantly keep me on my toes, teach me lessons of LIFEEE, and soften my heart.
