Power of healing
Our ancestors are so precise, so intricate with their words because they know that there is mana in them. Mana and purpose in every vowel giving layers upon layers of meaning to every word.
When the colonizers came to our shores one of the first things they sought out to take away was our language because they knew there was power in our ability to understand one another, to communicate with the land, and with the spiritual realms. Whole generations of our people suffered the trauma of being ripped from everything that makes us who we are and, yet, after every attempt to silence us, we are still here.
So when I hear our people speaking our language, chanting, dancing, carving, planting, harvesting, praying, creating, living - I celebrate and I feel every ancestor living in my bones celebrating too.
Tearing each other down, comparing, and criticizing one another is yet another old tactic of the kolonaio to keep us separate, keep us in fighting, and keep us small. Every time we decide to shift this learned way of upholding the legacy of those who wanted us to forget who we are, the more we heal through the generations - the more we make way for those to come to live knowing and trusting in their mauli.
