‘O Poli‘ahu i ke kapu

The night before last I felt the temperature drop and I said to forest, “the snow is coming.” The presence of Poli‘ahu came on the cool chill of the wind that graced the slopes of Hualālai. This morning, the white glisten of the snow adorned the summit of Mauna Kea in alignment with this powerful day. The sun and the moon will reflect one another today manifesting in a solar eclipse. The moon is new. And the earth shook us awake.

Offerings of chant and song leave my lips greeting the goddess of our most sacred waters.
