THEY STOOD ON THE MOUNTAIN
“I wrote this poem during the time when people who I love so dearly were standing on the frontlines of Mauna Kea, and I was on the other-side of the world feeling helpless. I was able to do no more than simply be a witness, and these words come from the deep emotions that I felt, trapped in the heartbreaking turmoil of wanting nothing more than to be there with them, but also knowing that the strength and support from the outside meant everything. These words are in honor of those who stood and continue to stand today and are full of my immense love and admiration for the protectors of Mauna Kea whom I am honored to consider family. “
