Hula Beyond the Ala #9

Hula Beyond the Ala, an MKEA weekly Tuesday post by Hāwane Rios is today being shared by her mother, Pua Case.
Sometimes hula is dancing for a special occasion and sometimes itʻs creating chants for occasions that are marked by individuals, organizations and at times, nations.
For Hula Beyond the Ala, I share an oli that I wrote today as part of our MKEA Tribute to missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls that will be presented on May 5.
Itʻs called Ka Lehua (the color of the red lehua is conpared to the red that is worn symbolically to bring awareness and action to mmiw)

Onaona I ka lei ʻohu aʻo ka lehua lae

Wahine koa aʻo ka nahele aʻo ka lehua lae
ʻO neia ka Hale Haumea aʻo ka lehua lae

The rains fall from the heavens, Red Warrior
The rain that opens the flowers, Red Warrior
Woven into a lei of red, Red Warrior
A fragrant lei in the mist, Red Warrior
You are close to me in my heart, Red Warrior
A woman warrior of the forest, Red Warrior
This is the house of the Red Earth Woman, Red Warrior
