Hula Beyond The Ala #2
When the World Comes to Pray
Hula Beyond the Ala Series
We gathered at the base of our sacred mountain to pray for the waters of the world
Carriers of ritual made the journey from all directions
Bringing with them the ceremonies of their ancestors
Ancient songs in the language of their homelands
And the deepest reverence and love for the healing of this planet
As I sat there in the presence of all of our kūpuna, tears flowed from my eyes and touched the ground as offering
Their songs took me back to the time of the ala when people came from the four winds to stand with us
When people came to love this mountain and dance together at the foothills of Ka‘ohe
When we could embrace without worry and without caution
My soul has longed for this kind of ceremony
My heart has yearned for this kind of connection
Three seasons of Lono have passed since I have left the shores of Hawai’i
And I have felt the pull of mountains beyond our ocean for some time now
I missed the world and the world came to us
With offerings of sacred tobacco
Of sage
Of water
Of hope
Of love
