Ka Wai Ola a Kāne me Kanaloa

When I came back from Hōlankū, the eldest atoll in our chain of islands, the first place I went was to the top of our mountain. I brought with me an offering of ko‘a, representing the oldest coral that still can be touched by our hands. I made the journey to the top of Kūkahau‘ula, the closest I could get to the sky with my feet still on the ground. I was bringing with me a piece of an ancient island that will become a mountain beneath the sea to complete the ceremonies I did while I was living eye to eye with the ocean. I cried as I lifted this ko‘a to the sky, feeling every part of the return home. Chants to Kāne and Kanaloa left my lips, echoing off the place I prayed to every day I was in the lands of Pō.

From one sacred land to the other
Connected by salt and by water
The realms coming together at the confluence of the past and the present
Eia lā
Ua pae i uka
A vessel of the Moananuiākea
Lifted to the domain of Wākea
Signaling to the depths and the heights
That we still remember and we are still standing for all that gives life
It is the mana of this ko’a that I call upon now to cleanse the waters the live above and beneath the land
That live within us and without us
Governed by the Gods
Who bestowed upon us the sacred agreement to care
I place my prayers in the bowl of my hands and carry them to the lewa
And respond to the kahea of O‘ahualua
To rise
Like a mighty wave
For all of Ka‘ohewai

We demand for the @usnavy Red Hill Fuel Storage Facility to be shut down and for the rightful pathways of the waters to be restored to its natural and rightful splendor. We demand for the Military Industrial Complex to stop poisoning our lands, oceans, waters, and people.
