a small judicial win for the environmental protection organization Ben Magec, who has opposed the construction of the TMT in La Palma due to the destructive impact it will have on conservation lands.

Of course, the TMT is forging ahead and will appeal the ruling as it did in Hawai'i, despite concerns over conservation lands.

As for Hawai'i, recommendations by the National Science Foundation to Congress on funding priorities have not been released yet. And it is on these forthcoming recommendations that the question of future of the TMT in Hawai'i currently rests.

So as it stands, the Thirty Meter Telescope remains without a home and without needed funding. It is being fought on two sides of the globe. The lifespan of colonial astronomy is shrinking.

And no matter what decisions are made, we will Kūpa'a. The TMT will never be built in Hawai'i. Solidarity with the land protectors of La Palma. Kū Kia'i Mauna.
